Caritas Czech Republic Leads Climate Resilience Project in Western Province

16th October 2024

In an effort to provide sustainable solutions to climate change in Western Province, Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia (CCR) is implementing the “Innovative Technological Solutions for Climate Resilience in Western Province of Zambia III” project. The initiative, funded by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is being carried out in close collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP) and various Zambian government ministries.

In Sioma District, members of the Ward Development Committee and key stakeholders from Nangweshi and Mbeta Wards are receiving training in Community-Based Participatory Planning (CBPP). The training aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement the project effectively.

Facilitated by officers from Sioma Town Council and the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Cooperatives and Entrepreneurship Development and Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, the training has seen active participation from local leaders, including Nangweshi Councillor Liywali Liywali and Mbeta Ward Councillor Yuyi Situmbeko. On the first day, participants were asked to identify the livelihood challenges their communities have faced in recent years.

Community-Based Participatory Planning (CBPP) emphasizes the involvement of all community groups, including women, youth, and vulnerable individuals. The approach aims to enhance community ownership and empower locals to identify priorities and develop tailored, community-driven solutions.

CBPP is a core element of the World Food Program’s (WFP) Three-Pronged Approach (3PA), which also includes Integrated Context Analysis and Seasonal Livelihood Programming, making it a crucial component in fostering climate resilience in the region.
