AUDITOR GENERAL PUSHES SIOMA TO FAST-TRACK DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

AUDITOR General Dr. Ron Mwambwa has called on the Sioma Town Council to accelerate the completion of development projects in the district, urging the Local Authorities to ensure that citizens benefit promptly from public infrastructure investments.

Dr. Mwambwa visited Sioma to assess the implementation of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects and gain firsthand insight into progress on the ground. During the visit, he stressed that delays in project execution compromise access to essential infrastructure and services for the community.

“It is crucial that these projects are completed on time so that the people of Sioma can begin to benefit from the facilities funded through their resources,” said Dr. Mwambwa.

He underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of public funds and reminded the council that all projects must be finalized within the stipulated financial year.

Dr. Mwambwa commended the council for acquiring earth-moving machinery, which has been instrumental in constructing the Nangweshi–Sinjembela Road a project that has drawn positive feedback from the community.

“It’s encouraging to see that the community is satisfied with the progress on the road project. This shows that development is reaching the people, and that’s exactly what we aim for,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sioma Town Council Chairperson Mr. Lyamba Keeba and Council Secretary Mrs. Chiti Nsama Mizinga assured the Auditor General that weekly site inspections, led by the Council Engineer, are being conducted to ensure timely project delivery and maintain construction standards.

“We have instituted strict oversight mechanisms to ensure that all projects are completed on schedule,” said Mr. Keeba.

Mrs. Mizinga also revealed that the Local Authority has strengthened its contract management, thanks to the recent recruitment by the Local Government Service Commission to strengthen oversight and compliance.

Dr. Mwambwa concluded his visit by reiterating his office’s commitment to ensuring effective use of public resources and promoting meaningful development in all parts of the country.
